Fever is one of the most challenging problems in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the following example may be paradigmatical. A 53-year-old woman diagnosed with SLE (2001: fever, arthritis, subacute cutaneous lupus, anti-dsDNA, ANA and anti-Ro positivity) was diagnosed with CIHHV&. This is the first case described in SLE, suggesting that in SLE patients with fever, conditions such as CIHHV-6 should be taken into account in order to avoid unnecessary antiviral treatment and to identify and manage the right cause of fever.
