The chapter aims at investigating the social and economic forces shaping international academic mobility relying on data provided by one of these surveys, namely the Changing Academic Profession International Survey (CAP). In order to do so, first, some concepts and definitions on international academic mobility are provided; second, some characteristics of the CAP survey are illustrated; and third, the results of a set of multinomial regressions elaborated to estimate the effect of selected macro contextual predictors on different types of international academic mobility, controlled by both individual and organizational indicators, are presented.
