Abstract

Today the majority of students and scholars (83%) begin their searches starting from a search engine. Thus, the evaluation of the quality and reliability of the information on the Internet becomes an essential task for every librarian. The paper examines how false information is created, disseminated and used on the Internet, considering the issue in relation with the future of library service, and remarking how readers – as well as librarians – must improve their comprehension of how the Internet works, for a critical, correct and creative use of information. (NB: this is the first part of a more extensive study. The second part will be published in AIB Studi 2/2014)
