The article illustrates the changes of the aesthetic experience of music through the impact of electric and electronic technologies. The first section deals with Walter Benjamin's concept of mechanical reproduction and the theories of media developed within the Frankfurt School. Some considerations on Marshall McLuhan ideas of tactility and audio-visual reception help to extend the investigation to the complex reletionships between the live experience of music and its appreciation in a mediatized environment.
