Global social challenges can no longer be addressed with sectorial studies and punctual solutions. Considering the architectural field, quick, economic and standardized projects do not answer the real human needs. The social aspects of the new settlements are often set aside and the end-users do not take part in the design development. In order to fill this gap, the research concerns this main point: which are the criteria to set up an International Design Workshop addressing international social questions in the field of architecture? As a result this paper suggests a specific model for International Design Workshops, which is exportable to different social challenges and contexts. Abstract

The first application of this structure is focused on answering the need of new sustainable social housing for refugees in Giessen (Germany).
