A novel control strategy to manage the integration of a wind turbine and an energy storage unit to an existing oil and gas (OG) stand-alone microgrid is the topic of this paper. The control strategy includes a primary and a secondary controller that, using the battery in tandem with the wind turbine, do not require any dump load. The secondary controller includes an energy management system which uses the estimated wind production so that the energy stored in the batteries is enough to supply the load, while providing the ground for the economic assessment. Additionally, a primary controller operates the original microgrid's source, a gas turbine, at its maximum efficiency through an active power control strategy. The microgrid is simulated and the combined control of the battery and GT bench-tested.
