Abstract

In 1977 Eric Berne theorized that even young children try to make sense out of the different stimuli they receive in daily life, through what he called the inner “Little Professor” of the child. We suggest that, in time of Covid-19 worldwide emergency, the “Little Professor” of our children is trying to develop a naïve theory of what is happening, incorporating different sources of information. In this meaning-making process, the role of adult and caregivers is crucial to help young children to cope with such unexpected events and emergencies. There are at least four ways in which they can support them: self-regulating, listening carefully, talking simple and practicing together. Supporting young children in dealing with such emergency can improve their resilience resources.
