This paper deals with the design of a novel sliding mode observer-based scheme to estimate and reconstruct the unmeasured state variables in power networks including hydroelectric power plants and thermal power plants. The proposed approach reveals to be flexible to topological changes to power networks and can be easily updated only where changes occur.
