Thanks to constant price lowering and unrestrainable technological improvements, reliable and easy-to-use eye trackers are now rela-tively widespread, especially in research laboratories. On the same time, e-learning is becoming almost as common as traditional in-class teaching, offering courses which cover practically any topic. In this paper we consider the application of eye tracking to e-learning, as a way to improve the machine-learner interaction process. After introducing eye tracking in general, we discuss its use for emotion recognition and describe the main existing e-learning projects which exploit such technology. Abstract

We then illustrate the goals and features of e5Learning, our ongoing project at the University of Pavia.
