Thanks to constant price lowering and unrestrainable technological improvements, reliable and easy-to-use eye trackers are now rela-tively widespread, especially in research laboratories. On the same time, e-learning is becoming almost as common as traditional in-class teaching, offering courses which cover practically any topic. In this paper we consider the application of eye tracking to e-learning, as a way to improve the machine-learner interaction process. After introducing eye tracking in general, we discuss its use for emotion recognition and describe the main existing e-learning projects which exploit such technology. We then illustrate the goals and features of e5Learning, our ongoing project at the University of Pavia.

Abstract
Thanks to constant price lowering and unrestrainable technological improvements, reliable and easy-to-use eye trackers are now rela-tively widespread, especially in research laboratories. On the same time, e-learning is becoming almost as common as traditional in-class teaching, offering courses which cover practically any topic. In this paper we consider the application of eye tracking to e-learning, as a way to improve the machine-learner interaction process. After introducing eye tracking in general, we discuss its use for emotion recognition and describe the main existing e-learning projects which exploit such technology. We then illustrate the goals and features of e5Learning, our ongoing project at the University of Pavia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
