This study centres on creating an Italian corpus designed for the task of Implicit Object Completion. In this corpus, every sentence contains a token [MASK] denoting the position of the Object's head, along with the annotation of a Gold Standard filler word. The completion of the Object is conceived as a masked word task, theoretically executable by a BERT-based transformer model. In the project's next phase, this task will be applied to a range of Italian language models, and their performance will be assessed. Overall, this project seeks to offer insights into the capabilities and constraints of such models in successfully completing Implicit Objects within various contexts.

Abstract

This study centres on creating an Italian corpus designed for the task of Implicit Object Completion. In this corpus, every sentence contains a token [MASK] denoting the position of the Object's head, along with the annotation of a Gold Standard filler word. The completion of the Object is conceived as a masked word task, theoretically executable by a BERT-based transformer model. In the project's next phase, this task will be applied to a range of Italian language models, and their performance will be assessed. Overall, this project seeks to offer insights into the capabilities and constraints of such models in successfully completing Implicit Objects within various contexts.
