The examination of some texts (by Augustine and Possidius), as well as the prologue of the Retractationes, convinces us that this work is entirely consistent with the author’s sensibility as a thinker and writer, and is not only an interesting aid to truly understand the inspiration and destination of the previous works. In fact, we find here the adoption of a certain lexicon, of some expressions and images that Augustine uses in very significant contexts of other works, in particular the Confessions, and, also for this reason, Augustine’s writing reveals itself to be a powerful means of communication directed to a qualified audience and not only – or not simply – the expression of one’s own feelings.

Abstract
The examination of some texts (by Augustine and Possidius), as well as the prologue of the Retractationes, convinces us that this work is entirely consistent with the author’s sensibility as a thinker and writer, and is not only an interesting aid to truly understand the inspiration and destination of the previous works. In fact, we find here the adoption of a certain lexicon, of some expressions and images that Augustine uses in very significant contexts of other works, in particular the Confessions, and, also for this reason, Augustine’s writing reveals itself to be a powerful means of communication directed to a qualified audience and not only – or not simply – the expression of one’s own feelings.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
