The traditions regarding the Roman past of Vercelli have been the focus of attention of local scholars who dealt with the city’s antiquities. Traces of this past were also evident in the presence of ancient architectural and sculptural materials reused in the medieval and modern buildings of the city. The paper will attempt to analyze this materials placing them in the different contexts in which they were reused, in a backwards path that will try to identify possible connections with what is known of the topography of ancient Vercellae, in order to find possible new data about the Roman city and, at the same time, to understand the processes of selection and adaptation of the stones and the reasons for their movement to the locations than the original ones.
