During embryonic development tbe pre-bacterlocytes of Periplaneta americana and BlatteUa germanica have dlfferent topograph1c localizations on the abdominal fat bodies. At the time of phagocytosis of the bacterial symbionts, while in Periplaneta americana the pre-bacteriocytes are arranged on the dorsal position and on part of the side walls of the internal fat bodies. in Blattella germanica theyare localized on their median ventral surface. Abstract

Owing to this difference two hypotheses - which are here discussed - are put forward, regarding the migration of the bacterial symbionts from the deutoplasm to the pre-bacteriocytes.
