Following the treatment of two patients affected by liver metastases by means of Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, which is an experimental radiotherapy based on thermal-neutron irradiation of tumour tissues previously enriched with 10B, the BNCT activities currently ongoing in Pavia (e.g. analysis of Boron uptake, Monte Carlo simulations of neutron fluxes and doses in the various organs and radiobiological studies) are aimed to the application of this technique to lung tumours. In this paper we will present recent results on BNCT radiobiology at cellular level, which is under investigation not only experimentally but also theoretically, basing on a mechanistic model and a Monte Carlo code that were recently extended to simulate the killing of tumour cells subject to a typical BNCT treatment.
