In this paper, I discuss how much of the theoretical work on verb classification in linguistics and lexicology can be relevant from a lexicographic point of view, and evaluate and how reasonable / difficult / useful it is to incorporate valence information in general monolingual dictionaries. Finally, I confront concrete problems that arise in the presentation of pronominal verbs in Italian monolingual dictionaries.
