Direct evidence, eyewitness and interpretation of flood marks supply us with incomplete and not easily interpretable indications showing a picture often imprecise of the hydro-geological disaster. Hence the mathematical modeling of the flood is often necessary since the model output is congruent with the physical phenomenon. The study presented in this paper mathematically describes the flooding of the large floodplain of Sommo con Porto - S. Margherita, located in Cremona country (Italy), which occurred during the Po flood in October 2000. The flood simulation through the mathematical modeling clarifies the importance of the hydraulic phenomenon and the extreme complexity of the event. It also defines the weakness of the hydraulic defence system of the floodplain. The visual representation of the outputs has been predisposed to a non-specialist audience.

Abstract
The visual representation of the outputs has been predisposed to a non-specialist audience.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
