From the economical point of view, the roses (Rosa spp) are one of the most important ornamental flowers due to their beauty, attractiveness and various uses. Although roses have been cultivated for thousands of years, the breeding programa aim at developing new desirable modern cultivars. Roses breeding programmes are mostly focused on the quality of pollen from valuable cultivars. It is well documented the fact that pollen vitality and vigor varies from species to species and is dependent on the conditions used for conservation. In this study, 14 different rose cultivars, kindly provided by Nirp International, were used for identifying proper markers for pollen vigor in order to implement conservation protocols.
