In this paper we present a graphic formalism for visual specification of relational database queries. The purpose is to make the structure of complex queries clearer, by highlighting the parts of which they are composed and their interrelations. Through many examples, we will show that the formalism is able to adequately represent SQL queries of various complexity, without loosing expressiveness. GraphSQL may be intended both as a visual language to be employed directly for querying relational databases and as a support tool to be used along with “traditional” text-based SQL systems.

Abstract
In this paper we present a graphic formalism for visual specification of relational database queries. The purpose is to make the structure of complex queries clearer, by highlighting the parts of which they are composed and their interrelations. Through many examples, we will show that the formalism is able to adequately represent SQL queries of various complexity, without loosing expressiveness. GraphSQL may be intended both as a visual language to be employed directly for querying relational databases and as a support tool to be used along with “traditional” text-based SQL systems.File in questo prodotto:
