This paper investigates the constraints on anticausativization in Italian, in relation to the role played by the aspectual template of verbs, the inherent - relational properties of their arguments (e.g. their animacy/control/affectedness) and the contribution of the inherent meaning of the verb, the root, to the different morphosyntactic realizations of this construction. The discussion is structured as follows. Section 2 illustrates some current issues and views on the anticausative alternation in Italian. Section 3 discusses some difficulties with current accounts of anticausativization in Italian, that is revisited in section 4 in the light of a scale-based aspectual classification of verbs. Finally section 5 draws the conclusions.

Abstract
Finally section 5 draws the conclusions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
