A first step in the prevention of fall in the elderly is the assessment of the elderly motor control by performance tests. One such test is the Tinetti test (TT). In this paper a system is described aimed at objective, more quantitative evaluation of subject’s performance during TT. The system is based on two inclinometers measuring trunk inclination in two orthogonal planes. Signals from inclinometers are A/D converted and acquired by a PC. Signal processing consists in computing morphological parameters describing the main features of subject’s trunk movement during the test maneuvers. The system is simple, cheap, user friendly, accurate enough and causes no discomfort to the patient. Preliminary results of measurements on both normals and patients suggest the viability of this approach and the possibility of discriminating normal from abnormal performance, based on the values of the morphological parameters.
