Abstract

A low cost spectrometer assembled in the laboratory is used to obtain and analyse spectra of different sources with the help of a digital camera and image processing software. The article shows that this apparatus, easily reproducible by the students themselves, allows to realize experimental activities, such as the estimation of Rydberg’s constant and the measurement of the transmission band and the emission peaks of coloured inks, suitable for introducing basic topics in modern physics.
